Congratulations to DLC student Ruby Kinash who was selected to go to Nova Scotia for a national science fair through 4-H Canada!
Ruby, who is in her ninth year of 4-H, participated in a virtual first-round, and was then selected as a finalist and invited to the next round of judging at the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Truro, Nova Scotia held February 27thto March 3rd. During the awards banquet, she found out her project had won!
Her winning project studied the differences between the bacteria in homemade unpasteurized sauerkraut, bought organic unpasteurized sauerkraut, and bought organic pasteurized sauerkraut. Ruby explains how her DLC courses helped her in her journey, “By teaching [her] how to set up a science experiment and project, [and] having presentation skills.”
Her experiment is ongoing and she plans to utilize its findings for a project in her DLC science class. Great work Ruby!
